SELDA – Influenced by such famous vocalists as Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Randy Crawford, it was natural that Selda began singing funk and soul tracks from an early age. Her personal preference for
songs of Brand New Heavies, Earth, Wind & Fire and rock music from Mother’s Finest laid the foundation for the broad diversity of her vocal capabilities. “Taking only one direction” was never an option for Selda!

Selda was first noticed at the age of 15. Whilst still at school she fronted the rock-pop band “Girl Power” as the
vocalist. With 4 girls on stage, “Girl Power” developed an energetic mixture of selfconfidence and robust rock music combined with soul elements. Selda’s voice was the band’s trademark and also the guarantee for considerable success. Whilst still at school “Girl Power” performed numerous concerts with their obvious motto (“we’ll show the men …!!”) and sensational stage show and whilst she was still in further education they were part of the ’90s pop culture and were featured in articles in the German teen magazine “Bravo Girl!”, in daily newspapers and, of course, performed at numerous concerts and small music festivals.

Aside from “Girl Power” Selda started making her own way as a solo artist and later extended her vocal range by singing on various Dance-, Electro- and also House-Music productions. The list of projects, labels and producers she has worked with in the past years reads like a “Who’s Who” of the dance and club music
scene: Bellini, Loona, Fragma, Paffendorf, Rushroom feat. Fara, Rubinrot, Project Aura (Soundtrack “Pura Vida Ibiza”), Angels (an act in Japan), Ramon Zenker, Gottfried Engels, Alex Christensen, DJ Jesus Luz, Sinan Mercenk, Dirk & Marco Duderstadt, Mario de Bellis, Jens Lissat, Jens O., Groovemaster K., Torsten Stenzel, Tiger Records, No Respect Records, Scream and Shout
Recordings, Yawa Records, just to name a few …..

In addition to her studio work, Selda has fascinated audiences with her powerful voice and stage performance at many events and live shows in various House Clubs all over Germany, Japan, Brazil, Russia, Gran Canaria (Spain). Even within the world-famous events such as “In Bed With Space” Party, “Gaypride Maspalomas” Selda sang 2x for 50.000 people, “In Touch With Ibiza” Party and “Christopher Street Day” all over Germany Selda
has the audience with her live singing enthusiastically.

Selda stormed with her first solo Single “100% Pure Love” into the Top 10 of all the Dance Charts and she even entered the official German Top 100 Single Charts! She has, as one of the first female vocalists, created a new style of music that can be called “Electro-Vocal-House”. With this sound and her fantastic live show Selda starts her first international Club Tour in early 2009. Selda produced in collaboration to a very famous German music producer/DJ Alex Christensen “Mad About You” and with Madonna’s Ex Lover and worldwide famous Top Model/DJ Jesus Luz. Selda wrote and sang the lyrics of “You Are Mine”. Right now Selda released a fantastic club hit at Sounds United: Selda (Moomicoo feat.) “Don’t Look Any Further”.

She also appeared on Broadway, notably as understudy to Stephanie Mills as “Dorothy” in The Wiz, and stepped into the lead role in Washington, D.C. and St. Louis, Missouri.

Day has also written songs for Randy Crawford and Bootsy Collins, and has writing credits on Missy Elliott’s”Gossip Folks” (the second single from her Under Construction album), on which Day co-wrote the hook and provided backing vocals.

House music

Day was introduced to house music in 1996 when she was asked to do a demo. She met German record producers Boris Dlugosch and Mousse T, who produced a dance single “Keep Pushin”, which went on to reach No. 2 on the Billboard dance charts. She then sang chorus for Mousse T’s track “Horny”, which later gained in popularity when additional vocals from the duo Hot ‘N’ Juicy were added to the song. “Horny” reached No. 1 on the Billboard dance chart. The follow-up song “Hold Your Head Up High”, with Booom!, reached No. 6 on the Billboard dance chart.

In 1997, she released the club anthem “Movin’ Up”, credited as DJ Mike Cruz Presents Inaya Day and Chyna Ro. For this record, long time friend and actress Tichina Arnold lent her vocals but chose to use the moniker Chyna Ro for the project. She again teamed up with Cruz for “Can’t Stop Dancing” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard club play chart.

In 2004 she sang on a track by the Australian dance producer mrTimothy called “I Am Tha 1”, credited to Mr Timothy featuring Inaya Day, which went to the top of the Australian dance charts and top 30 in the Australian pop charts. She also sang on his next single “Stand By Me” later that year. “Nasty Girl” was first released in Australia, reaching the top 20, and it was then released in the UK in July 2005, and reached No. 9 there. Later that year, she also guest featured on “The Glamorous Life”, a single by T-Funk, an alternate alias of mrTimothy. In June 2007, Day released a cover version of the 1988 Big Pig song, “Breakaway”, which itself was a cover of the song “I Can’t Break Away” by Chuck Jackson.
According to the artist himself, his creative melodies always come out of the blue or in the middle of the night. If the final output brings goosebumps then he knows he has just made a catchy jam that ignites a fire in listeners.

Stay tuned!!
